English Dub Review: Urusei Yatsura “Indelible Lipstick Magic!! / Lethal Attacks: Yaminabe!!”

Overview:

There is nothing suspicious about the lipstick Lum wants to put on Ataru. Nope, nothing suspicious at all. Later, Ataru’s class takes the dreaded Yaminabe food challenge!

Our Take:

I’m almost out of words and patience to describe how I feel about this series. There has been one or two decent episodes and the rest have been stinkers. Which is ironic because in half of this episode Ataru is trying to use stinky garlic breath to annoy Lum. I know that you have to creat conflict to keep a series going and this is a very long running series but this is getting annoying.

Lum is a beautiful alien girl and for some reason she is head over heels in love with Ataru. To be fair to him though he has told her a multitude of times that he doesn’t love her like that. Though it seems like he doesn’t love anyone like that. If he could have stayed faithful to Shinobu we probably wouldn’t even be in this mess. I don’t mean to make every review about how awful the characters are but that’s the thing that never changes. There were some funny parts sure but when you don’t care about the characters it all falls a little flat.
