English Dub Review: Oshi no Ko “Manga-Based TV Drama”

Overview:

Aqua agrees to Kana’s request, but not for the reason she wants. There’s a connection between Masaya Kaburagi and Ai, which leads Aqua to the set of a TV drama for answers.

Our Take:

One thing that is always interesting to me when you make an anime, tv series, or movie about acting is how meta it can get at times. You have actors telling a story about acting and actors. But luckily for us, at its heart, this is a revenge story. Aqua is out for blood, don’t let his silly name fool you, I wouldn’t want to run into him in a dark alley. Kana was one of my favorite characters in the manga and the anime seems to be the exact same. I can’t tell whether Aqua actually cares about Kana or it’s just convenient for his plans but they are a fun duo to watch.

One area where this series absolutely shines is in the animation department. The characters and backdrops are absolutely stunning. When I first read the manga the thing I noticed most were the eyes of the characters so that was going to be important from an animation standpoint. Trust me they nail it, this anime has some of the best character designs and animation and it’s no wonder why it’s as popular as it has been.
