English Dub Review: Dead Mount Death Play “The Signpost”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Inspector Iwanome pressures Polka into reading his fortune. What does the inspector hope to gain, and what will he do when the reading dredges up secrets from his past? Meanwhile, the date of the Phantom Solitaire’s “performance” is fast approaching.
Our Take:
Polka’s fortune-telling business is finally back from its hiatus! Unfortunately, his first customer after re-opening isn’t whom he expected regarding their history together. Tsubaki and Arase have found the team’s headquarters, but thankfully, they’re only here to have their fortunes read. Tsubaki only wants to know his fortune, as Arase doesn’t want to jinx himself with his own.
After witnessing Tsubaki’s humorous reactions to Polka’s fortune-telling abilities, including the pen, the appointment quickly goes overboard when Tsubaki freaks out over a mysterious symbol the pen drew. However, there’s a reason behind his strange reaction. It turns out that he recognized the drawing back when he discovered it in a cigarette box. But, of course, he’s not the only one who knows about the symbol, as Hosaragi, the corrupt inspector who’s also the pen, and another mysterious person named “The Grocer” have ties to it. For the latter, the Phantom Solitaire pays a visit to him when he finds the drawing, while the Fire Breathing Bug has fun turning the burglars into ash. After the brief discussion involving the Grocer studying the symbol, the Phantom puts his “performance” into action by having a ton of blimps with the same logo fly across the city.
This “performance” may seem harmless at first, but based on Polka’s reaction, it’s actually far worse than it appears. The symbol that everyone’s been curious about is the Emblem of the Falling Empire, which came from The Corpse God’s world. So it seems the Corpse God cannot escape from his previous life, even through reincarnation. If that’s the case, we might be in for something enthralling in the show’s reverse isekai narrative.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
