English Dub Review: Dead Mount Death Play “The Emblem”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Solitaire fills the skies of Shinjuku with blimps—all marked with the emblem of the Corpse God’s home country! What is a symbol from another world doing in modern Japan, and who will take the magician’s bait?
Our Take:
The Corpse God’s quest for peace has gone from bad to worse in this episode. The Phantom Solitaire has released a bunch of blimps around Shinjuku, but they all share the same emblem. This particular symbol, the Emblem of the Falling Empire, came from the Corpse God’s own world. Like the Corpse God and the others, I was curious about how something from a fantasy world appears in modern times.
Unfortunately, the answer to that question doesn’t appear in this episode. Instead, we’re treated with a dialogue-driven plot involving the Corpse God revealing his identity to Sayo. Rather than a traditional flashback, his backstory is told through an 80s anime show, further showcasing the random humor that occasionally balances well with its serious tone. Luckily, Sayo seemed to be okay with the truth. However, that’s not the only thing Sayo’s comfortable with, as she and Misaki have grown more fond of each other because Sayo enjoys talking about sharks with her.
Besides that and Tsubaki encountering Jirotaru Takasu, the lieutenant, “The Emblem” does little to advance the arc that started with the blimps. With the Corpse God and his team starting to look for answers, the next couple of episodes may be gaining traction sooner than later.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
