English Dub Review: Ranking of Kings: “Hiling’s Old Friend / Daida and Magic”
Overview
Hiling’s Old Friend
After being thrown out of the kingdom, Hiling insists on enlisting Ann’s aid to return and save Daida, but other matters keep Ann from joining her.
Daida and Magic
A young Daida wants to learn how his mother can heal others but finds it a tough skill to master.
Our Take
For the first half, Sometime in the past, a wounded bird fell onto the grounds of the Bosse Kingdom, and Hilling used her magic to heal it. Both Bojji and Daida watch in amazement. Daida, especially, then asks his mother to teach him how to use healing magic. He fails in his first attempt, trying to heal a single flower, and fails despite his greatest efforts…
As for the 2nd half, Taking place in an environment deprived of light, Hiling calls out to her son Daida and hears his disembodied voice in the distance calling out to her. However, Hiling ‘s way to Daida is blocked by an invisible wall she can’t break through. Awakening under a shady tree on a grass field, Hiling’s knight Dorshe checks up on her. Despite Hiling ‘s order to return to the Bosse Kingdom’s Castle, Dorshe regretfully informs her that she cannot, reciting the warning that Bosse possessing Daida’s body gave to him. The obstinate Hiling, however, insisted that she return to her kingdom regardless of any consequences, but Dorshe suggests they find allies to aid in their endeavor…
Overall, Two passable episodes that manage to give us more depth in terms of the character’s pasts. The first half with Hiling going to help that village with their bandit problem so she could recruit Ann to help save Daida after Bosse and Miranjo took over was cool too and ended on quite a comedic note. Also, Both short stories are given more context to season 1’s proceedings. Seeing a story about little Bojji and little Daida had some wholesome moments. Back when they were just kids playing together going off on an adventure. In the first season, things between Bojji and Daida were contentious at best so seeing this is nice. Daida wanting to learn the healing magic his mom knows came around great in this segment. These were pieces of the story that we previously never got to see in season one either, but I hope to see more stuff like this later on…
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
