English Dub Review: My Clueless First Friend “Grandma’s House”
Overview:
Nishimura visits her grandmother and Takada meets her family for the first time.
Our Take:
We get to meet Nishimura’s grandma in this episode. Her uncle too, but he’s only in one scene. Regardless, it’s nice to meet another member of Nishimura’s family besides her dad. Although, I love her dad in this episode. He’s hilarious and he even tells a classic dad joke in the dub. I don’t care how many creative liberties were taken with that joke because it had me laughing out loud.
Takada also gets to meet Nishimura’s family. He’s visiting friends nearby and he finds Kuro after he escapes. Takada bring Kuro back to Nishimura’s grandma’s house and the two hang out for a while. While they’re hanging out, Takada goes with Nishimura to pay her respects to her late mother. This is where the episode takes an interesting turn. The tone gets very serious and we see a new side to Takada that I wasn’t expecting. He even ends up crying, which is shocking to see given his usual upbeat personality.
I was expecting the usual wholesome comedy we get every episode. There’s plenty of that in here, but the ending really threw me for a loop. It also put the episode over the top for me. I enjoy the tone the show has already set, but I’m glad it’s not afraid change it up every now and then. I wonder if this will affect Takada’s and Nishimura’s friendship at all after this. I hope it doesn’t, but at the same time, I’m curious to how they would overcome it if it does. There are plenty of possibilities as to where this can go and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
