English Dub Review: My Clueless First Friend “Field Trips and the Magic of Marinated Eggs”

Overview:

Nishimura goes on her first field trip with Takada.

Our Take:

It’s time for the class field trip and Nishimura is excited to spend it with Takada. They want to sit next to each other on the bus, but Kasahara ends up sitting next to Takada. Nishimura sits next to Adachi, so at least she’s with a friend. Kasahara’s plan backfires because Takada gets sick on the bus. A class rep has to stay with him and Kasahara already told Nishimura to look after their classmates if something were to happen. Once again, her plan to get Takada away from Nishimura backfires.

Nishimura spends time with Takada until they’re ready to meet back up with the rest of the class. Nishimura has a great time on the field trip, especially during lunch. She never understood why her dad always packs so many marinated eggs in her lunch. However, now that she actually has friends to share them with, it makes perfect sense.

It’s nice seeing the class on a field trip, especially since Nishimura is fully enjoying it. She gets to spend time with Takada and her other friends and just have fun. Even the other kids teasing her is kept to a minimum. The teacher even scolds Kitagawa for calling her “The Grim Reaper.” I don’t know why it took him so long to finally say something, but I suppose it’s a start.

I also enjoy seeing Kasahara constantly fail in her attempts at separating Nishimura and Takada. She’s not the worst character, but I hate the fact that she’s mean to Nishimura for no reason. I could say that for the rest of the class too, but she actually wants to get closer to Takada. That’s going to be impossible unless she becomes friends with Nishimura too.

Nishimura’s dad continues to be fantastic at supporting his daughter. He keeps getting better every time he’s on the show. He’s always wanted to help Nishimura make new friends, but he knows he has to stay on the sidelines. Seeing him cry happily over the fact that his daughter has friends and is having fun with them is just so heartwarming.
