English Dub Review: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury “Father and Child”

Overview: 

Pursued by the Benerit Group’s garrison forces, the Dawn of Fold which perpetrated the attack on Plant Quetta is forced to evacuate its hideout. Guel, who was captured by Olcott, is now a prisoner at the hideout. Having slain his own father, Guel remains sunk in deep despair.

Our Take:

We are getting to the wartime part of the story now it seems and boy is it off to a big bang. If you thought this was going to be all fun and school stuff then this must be your first Mobile Suit Gundam series. It’s going to probably be nothing but death and sadness from here on out. Is it just me or is Guel being built up like he’s the main character or something? If you just started watching from the second cour then you’d be forgiven for thinking he was the main character, but while that may not be the case I am really interested in his character arc.

This whole arc has been really interesting so far, with a full-blown war being kicked off now it seems. What happened to make Earthians and Spacians hate each other so much? I have a feeling we will find out soon but a whole episode without Suletta was a bit odd, we’ll probably see her next week.
