English Dub Review: Dead Mount Death Play “The Monster”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Just when he thought the cops were bad enough, Polka comes face to face with Lemmings, Shinjuku’s most legendary criminal. Will Polka reveal his necromancy to save his new friends? And will his powers even be enough to save them if he does?
Our Take:
As seen in the previous episode, the special police unit isn’t the only thing Polka and his allies should be worried about. Instead, they get an unexpected visit from the bandaged man known as Lemmings. Regarding what he’s done to his victims, Lemmings isn’t precisely what I would call a nice guy. This resulted in an enticing battle involving Polka using his abilities secretly to rescue Misaki from Lemmings. Despite the dark lighting obscuring my vision, the episode further showcases the series’s knack for providing intense sequences combining action and horror.
Afterward, the episode shows that Lemmings is a hired assassin working for a chairperson, Takaru, who’s targeting Polka. The reason is that Polka has a wealthy family running the Mishima Yama Bank, and to no one’s surprise, any greedy psychopath would kill to have their fortune. I do mean “kill” in a literal sense, by the way. With the perpetrator responsible for targeting Polka being revealed, the Corpse God’s mission to live a peaceful life just got even more challenging than it was before. To make things even more difficult, he also discovered that Polka is an uncle to twin siblings, Shisuki and Koturo, despite appearing to be the same age as them. How the hell does that even work?
Amid these revealing truths, we also see Polka and his friends making money from fortune telling as a way of living an ordinary life. But, of course, this success isn’t possible without a friendly poltergeist possessing a pen. Unfortunately, since the words it wrote on paper are in Japanese and the English subtitles aren’t available, I couldn’t understand what it said. The characters helped me fill in the blanks a few times, but I can easily understand why English dub lovers are furious with its lack of English subtitles. Aside from that, Dead Mount Death Play continues to entertain me with its horror vibes and humor with this episode. Of course, things will continue to grow more interesting now that we know the real culprit behind the assassination of Polka Shinoyama.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
