English Dub Review: Urusei Yatsura “Transfer Student Close Call…/ Farewell Party Close Call…”

Overview:

Is Ataru seeing double, or are there really two hot new transfer students at school? And what does the super cute newbie Ran want from him and Lum!?

Our Take:

Another week, another review where I mostly bitch about Ataru. Seriously, one of the worst protagonists’s in a rom-com I’ve seen. Even Kazuya in Rent-a-Girlfriend has some moments where he is a decent person but Ataru? No, like dude you want to be a scumbag and cheat every opportunity you get, fine but do you have to be an absolute dumbass about it? This boy runs up to a girl while he is next to his fiance! Complete scumbag of a character.

This leads to me talking about Ran, Lum’s childhood alien friend who has anger issues and wants revenge on Lum. She wants to steal Ataru away from Lum, now based on my previous paragraph you might be wondering “Why? What could make her want one of the biggest douchebags on the planet?”. Well… it’s because she thinks Lum stole her love away from her so she wants to do the same. I’ve noticed this is the only reason that is acceptable to want Ataru because he is garbage. Hopefully, something changes next week but I’m not holding my breath.
