English Dub Review: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War “Dyed in Pure White”

Overview:

Valimar arrives in Haliask to assist with the evacuation efforts, and Lavian suddenly asks Rean to work with her. With Altina and Marty’s help, she sees the root cause of all the chaos.

Our Take:

Remember when this series first started and I said that it wasn’t necessary to have played the games up to that point? Well, as I watched the final episode I realized that having some knowledge of the games is almost required. Does it make this a bad anime? To me, no, but I could see how it would to others, so it depends on who you are I suppose.

When it comes to this series there is almost always a point when it goes from being a fairly realistic and grounded story to something completely over the top. That is what happened in this episode and I have to admit that in this particular case, I was lost. It was still fun to see some of the events between Cold Steel 2 and Cold Steel 3 get brought to life.

This will be an interesting series to give a season review on. It will be a bit difficult to stay unbiased because this is one of my favorite series but I think there is something of value in just about any anime, so stay tuned.
