English Dub Review: The Eminence in Shadow: “Betting on a Moment”
Overview: Cid (Adam Gibbs) meets Iris (Patricia Duran), and learns more about Beatrix (Allison Sumrall) and her connection to Alpha. (Christina Kelly)
Our Take: Claire’s sadistic torture of Cid is a reminder of why they’re as estranged as they are. Even still, it provides a moment for Cid to get to know Iris and some other info on competitors.
Iris is the exact opposite of Alexia and it’s honestly refreshing how respectful she is, comparatively. Beatrix’ title as the first champion coupled with her being Alpha’s aunt is interesting in her objective with her niece. What’s more fun is her quirky, ironically uncool dynamic with Cid with his delusions of how slick it is.
Mundane’s showdown with Annerose was only ever going to end with his victory. However, the appeal of their battle comes from how she closes the distance better than his other opponents thus far. Although short-lived, the animation excellently displays their overwhelming speed. His victory leaves them on good terms, so hopefully we’ll see her again and delve deeper into her government job. Cid’s win also builds anticipation for his battle with Iris as she’s the frontrunner for champion and intrigued.
Of course, Perv has more on his agenda than framing Rose in investigating Mundane, surprising nobody at all. He’s a basic, self-serving antagonist and all but assured to be defeated. Even with that, there’s still value in what can be gleaned about the underworld in his misconceptions about Mundane’s alliance. Not to mention, he’s a prime candidate to be turned into mincemeat with Rose’s newfound power boost.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
