English Dub Review: Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for my Retirement: “Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World”

Overview: Mitsuha (Trina Nishimura) and Wolf Fang bring their battle with the Alder Empire’s invading army and their dragon to a close.

Our Take: The dragon siege doesn’t feel as immense as the enemy in question and that’s mostly due to the stakes. It’s tied up so neatly in a bow with mere artillery fire, not distinguishing any increased threat level with the beast’s presence. It’s also barebones without much surprises or stylistic fanfare to enhance the uneventful win for Mitsuha.

The award ceremony is surprisingly more enjoyable in highlighting the sly devil Mitsuha is. Her writing checks that she can’t cash for Wolf Fang’s payment from the king is a funny little scheme. Her new viscountess citizenship also proves more than a celebratory formality in humorously plotting her way into guaranteed government protection. Not to mention, her cheesy acting is always the cherry on top with her hilarious act.

Catching up with Colette, giving her a job on the plot of land she owns, is a cute way to finally repay her. There’s a cliché, but sweet humbleness to Mitsuha in her maintaining their close friendship, despite her rank. With Mitsuha’s new estate and status quo, the finale is a quintessential, albeit basic send-off to the beginning of her quest for riches.
