English Dub Review: Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time: Super Extra “Peter Grill and the Dwarven Alliance”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Luvelia’s father sends Peter to deliver an ancient sword to a meeting celebrating a human-dwarf alliance, but sabotages the sword so it will break and pin the blame on Peter. Peter tries desperately to find someone to fix it and comes across Mithlim, a dwarf blacksmith who knows how to mend the type of metal in the sword. However, like just about every other woman in his life, Mithlim wants his splooge. UNlike those women, she has a robot who can literally suck Peter dry. Hijinks ensue and the two end up in a special room that remains locked unless the occupants have sex.

OUR TAKE

You ever have a moment where you think you’re about to pass on after completing a difficult task, but to your horror and disappointment, you’re still alive? That’s me, still covering this show for some reason. We’re entering the final three part arc of the season and, as promised, it focuses on another new girl who is a dwarf. Except this series has taken to a very unique interpretation of a dwarf by also throwing in some bunny girl attributes. Perhaps because rabbits dig holes and dwarves live…in caves? Seems like a very tenuous connection at best, but who am I to judge? The REAL issue here is that Mithlim is one more seminal fluid obsessed girl for the pile, bringing the total to six. That’s nearly one for every day of the week and this series has managed to achieve that in the equivalent of eleven regular episodes. A commendable feat to be sure, but also basically a sign that the joke, much like the many stains on the sheets, have become dry, stale, and very likely smell a great deal. Even with two episodes left, both very likely focusing on this dwarf girl and the recreation of this ancient sword, we must not forget that this whole thing is based on probably the thinnest of jokes stretched out to fit a whole ass premise.

Like honestly, I’m basically siding with Luvelia’s dad and hoping for Peter’s demise by the end of the season. Sabotaging him by breaking the sword may not be the most honorable way to go about it, but the dude is basically trying to get recompense for this asshole cheating on his daughter all the damn time with no signs of stopping and only more girls being added to the roster. We can all admit at this point that Peter Grill is basically beyond redemption. Also, funny and/or sad detail I noticed regarding the broadcast censoring. Mithlim’s robot is shown very clearly in the opening credits, cyber boobs basically sparkling for the camera, but for the episode itself, the censoring just puts white out all over them, ironically drawing even more attention. Just painting on some robo pasties would’ve done the job, but hey, I can’t say I’m that surprised with this being the action they went with. Ah well, either I’ll be done with this show now or in a couple weeks, but at least then it will be dead and stay dead.
