English Dub Review: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury ” If I Could Take One Step Toward You”

Overview: 

After their company is blocked from becoming ratified Miorine confronts who she thinks is responsible, Shaddiq Zenelli. To try and take back their company they challenge Saddiq to a team duel.

Our Take:

The animation in this series is nothing short of beautiful. With this being the first new Gundam series in seven years it makes sense that the studio animation would improve a lot but still. This is close to Mappa or Ufotable level of quality to me. I was also wondering if a duel could take place between multiple mobile suits because the only thing missing from this series so far has been the bigger battles. This episode showed me that even though this is a smaller-scale setting than we’re used to for this series it can still have some bombastic battles. As you know I love when characters use their brain to outsmart an opponent and how the Earth team used all of their busted mobile suits to come out on top was ingenious.

Lately, I’ve been shouting out and focusing on a lot of voice actors but considering that is one of the things that I love about English dubs I can’t beat myself up too much. For this episode, I want to take a moment to focus on Saddiq Zenelli’s voice actor Alejandro Saab. When I was first getting into anime I will admit when I saw him on the cast list I always thought it was a “boring” choice. Once I started this job it got me to watch some anime I normally wouldn’t so it put me onto some more roles of his. Well between those and his performance in this episode I’m a believer. Now when I see he’s playing someone I get excited. Please forgive me for ever doubting you Mr. Saab.
