English Dub Review: The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World “The Boy Who Became the World’s Strongest Sorcerer Releases the Binds”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
After Ariane’s intense onslaught, Amelia is prepared to lose. But right then, Ray reaches the arena and cheers her on. With her morale boosted, she begins to nullify Ariane’s attacks with a new spell and finally begins to strike back. She puts pressure on her opponent, but her body is also reaching its limits. Finally, the two girls exhaust themselves, and the battle comes to a close. On the other hand, in the final fight of the main bracket, Rebecca faces the tournament’s dark horse, Lucas Forster…

Our Take:
This week’s episode concludes the Magic Chevalier on an exciting note, with Amelia discovering her new form of power while on the verge of losing. Amelia’s new spell, Butterfly Effect, is a unique ability known as an Original, allowing her to manipulate Causality. In short, Amelia can teleport Ariane away whenever she gets too close to Amelia with her own immense power.
This puts Amelia at a crucial advantage against her childhood friend, but it also risks her own life since using a spell too long can cause her engram to overheat. It’s similar to what Ray experienced with his ice powers during his childhood in episode five, making the parallel between the two unsurprisingly inevitable. But, of course, that hardly matters as Amelia managed to hold on long enough to defeat Ariane and win the match.
Unfortunately, it’s not enough for the Arnold Academy to win the tournament, as Rebecca couldn’t withstand Lucas’s incredible speed. As a result, Lucas came out on top for his school, Mercross Academy. It’s later revealed by Ray that Lucas inherited the title of the Peerless Blade Sorcerer, which would explain his incredible speed and swordsman skills. But, of course, this also means that Lucas is the latest person to paint a target on Ray’s head, as he vows to defeat Ray in combat soon.
The ninth episode did a solid job bringing the show’s short tournament arc to a close with a tearful reunion between Ariane and Amelia and the appearance of Ray’s soon-to-be opponent. More importantly, it closes Amelia’s personal arc with her feeling able to embrace life with her friends due to her accomplishments. With the tournament over and the Grim Reapers foiled, the students are now looking forward to the academy’s new event, the Cultural Festival. Luckily, Ray and Amelia have an idea that would drive the attendees wild with delight. If you’re into risqué things, especially in anime form, you may already know what’s coming in next week’s episode. Although, this idea could wind up being overshadowed by Rebecca’s surprise engagement.
