English Dub Review: Sugar Apple Fairy Tale “If I Keep Gazing at You”

Overview

After leaving Philax Castle, Shallee runs into Hugh and learns of the clash between the duke and the royal family, and of the danger, Anne is in. Meanwhile, Anne hopes to learn more about the fairy who is the subject of her sugar confection…

Our Take

Having discovered that the fairy in the painting, Lealis Cil Eril or Christina as William named her, is not a slave, Anne asks William questions about her. William reveals that Christina was a water fairy he was in love with, but died recently. Meanwhile, as Hugh explains to Shallee that Christina’s death caused William to neglect his duties as a duke, they run into the Earl of Downing. Hugh begs the Earl to call off the subjugation while Anne is still in the castle but refuses.

Having snuck out of the castle, Mithril informs Shallee about Jonas’s manipulations and she wants him to return. Back in the castle, Anne decides to make her confection in front of William to get feedback as it is being made. Shallee arrives to take Anne out of the castle, but Anne tells him she is staying until she is finished resulting in a bittersweet ending that manages to resolve things in quite a unique way…

Overall, for a 3-part story arc, I actually felt bad for William. Seeing the person you love most disappear into nothing before your eyes has got to be heartbreaking. I can see why he wanted a sugar candy statue that is a replica of her and Anne could not have made it any better… And that moment in the end as well with Anne and Shallee embracing was well done. I also really liked how Shalle ran to Anne as soon as he heard what happened between her and Jonas from Mythril. I feel like Anne’s emotions are gonna burst out very soon because I don’t know how much longer she can keep them under wraps.
