English Dub Review: Sugar Apple Fairy Tale “A False Farewell”

Overview

The Duke of Philax is not satisfied with the sugar confection Anne has created, but Anne is determined not to give up. Challe shares his memories of Liz with Anne, which tangles Anne’s feelings into knots. Then Mithril Lid Pod’s wing is stolen!


Our Take

Jonas has shown new levels of Douchebaggery this time around to Anne as he manipulative Annes to get what he wants, in this particular case. I’m still kind of sad that he became the creep antagonist, was hoping they wouldn’t go that direction with his character (seen it way too many times with characters that are rejected at this point, it’s getting kind of old.) And to make things worse, Shalle is kicked out of the house leading to a subplot of his own…

It’s here through Shalle’s perspective we learn that the Duke needs to uphold his obligations and Hugh is coming to visit to make sure those happen. Though, everything was good except for Jonas who didn’t stop acting like a moron. I tried to understand him that he was frustrated and wanted to get out of the castle but to act like that was dumb and nonsense. It almost looks like he wanted to kill Ann for the second time. But I guess some characters in this show have higher expectations than others. Still, glad to see Anne not giving up as she seems like the type of girl who wants to prove herself.

Overall, this episode felt like a contrivance for the sake of giving the proceedings a false sense of drama. A lot of it felt pointless and while part of me thinks they wanted the audience to slightly sympathize with a piece of shit like Jonas in this scenario, I mostly chuckled when he begged for his life. As for the twist ending, If the duke is having tantrums over the sugar pieces being “wrong” were simply over the artist only giving her one wing, I’m gonna be unimpressed. Use your words, and be specific, It shouldn’t be this fucking hard!
