English Dub Review: Reincarnated as a Sword “The Wolf Summoned Hither”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
When Fran and Teacher are separated, Teacher is faced with a decision that could destroy him, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Our Take:
It’s unsurprising that a tail end of the season leads to higher stakes for the characters, especially in an RPG fantasy world. The second-to-last episode of Reincarnated as a Sword is no exception, with Fran being a defenseless warrior without his trustworthy Teacher by her side. To make things even more difficult for the cat-girl, she and Krad’s allies, Balz and Victor, are trapped in a different room with the Trickster Spider (Christina Kelly), a massive spider with an upper body of a woman.
In addition to fighting the Trickster Spider, “The Wolf Summoned Hither” marks another crucial part of the characters’ journey regarding their secret relationship. Fran and Teacher have kept their communications a secret since arriving in Alessa. However, now that Fran’s in extreme peril and Amanda is in possession of the sword, Teacher has no choice but to unveil his true identity to the Rank A adventurer. Fortunately, Amanda seems impressed with this reveal, which makes sense considering her supportive and motherly personality.
Additionally, Teacher gains a new ally in the form of a Familiar: an Onyx Wolf with a bad case of Mana Frenzy. The wolf, which Teacher names Jet (Kyle Colby Jones), evolves into the Darkness Wolf and assists Teacher and Amanda in finding Fran and the others. The fact that they now have a wolf as a party member is enough to get me flashbacks to Proudwolf from My Isekai Life. Hopefully, Jet will be as tolerable as Proudwolf moving forward.
Thankfully, they arrive just in time to send the Trickster Spider running after Fran managed to fight back with her fists. This moment marks another example of Fran’s growth as she strives to be a fearless warrior instead of a helpless, enslaved cat-girl. Thanks to her vision of Teacher, Fran is inspired to get back up and fight, meaning that a warrior’s strength comes from the heart, not just their weapon. But, of course, I’m only assuming that is the case based on what I saw.
“The Wolf Summoned Hither” is another solid episode depicting the next step of the characters’ growth through their heartfelt chemistry and trust toward Amanda. More importantly, it sets the stage for the final confrontation against the dreaded Trickster Spider and the conclusion of the show’s fairly entertaining first season. With their new hairy ally joining the party and the appearance of a mysterious white owl, I can tell that next week is going to be a satisfying treat for us isekai fans.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
