Review: SpongeBob SquarePants “Karen for Spot”

Overview

Karen looks after Spot while Plankton goes out of town…

Our Take

This time around we have a Karen-focused episode with her learning to babysit Plankton’s pet “Spot” which is basically a translucent, green amoeba that behaves like a hyperactive puppy and is friends with Spongebob’s pet snail Gary. And much like your “by the numbers” sitcom scenario, comedic chaotic hijinks predictably ensues…

Later in the story, Spongebob ends up having an actual purpose in the story in his attempts to help Karen calm the creature down which you’d think would be easy since Plankton had stick-it notes hung all over the walls, but Spot ended up eating them which arguably would’ve been a much shorter episode otherwise.

Overall, this was a short but simple episode that delivers on the chaotic wacky energy the show is often known for, with the character focused on someone who almost doesn’t have an episode of her own. Karen may be a highly advanced computer that’s married to Plankton, but it doesn’t mean she’ll always be prepared with the challenge of an energetic and unpredictable pet like Spot. But strangely, somehow it finds a way to work itself out thanks to Spongebob.
