English Dub Review: Trigun Stampede “Child of Blessing” ;”Once Upon a Time in Hopeland”

Overview:

Vash is drawn towards a seemingly abandoned village with a giant windmill, for reasons that only he knows. There, the group is attacked by a tremendous gale of gunfire.

Vash and Wolfwood board the massive Sandsteamer vessel to travel to their final destination, JuLai. Yet again, they are ambushed by a hail of gunfire, but this time, it’s someone Wolfwood knows.

Our Take:

We got a lot of backstory between these two episodes and most of it was sad. In the first one, we learn of a boy named Rollo who Vash was asked to retrieve a long time ago. Vash promised to help him no matter what if he needed it. Unfortunately, the boy was experimented on and turned into a monster who hated Vash. Wolfwood did what he had to and ended the boys suffering.

The second episode had Wolfwood’s backstory and I can assure you it wasn’t any less sad. Vash and Wolfwood are attacked by a gunman that Wolfwood seems to know. The boy was Wolfwood’s adopted brother from the orphanage they were raised at. There is a lot of experimentation on children that takes place in this universe but I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised.

I’m not 100% sure what the main plot is yet but the journey everyone is on right now is really good. The animation is phenomenal and the fight scenes have been fantastic. As far as reboots go, this is one you shouldn’t be missing. Though Crunchyroll is still having a hard time translating on-screen text which made some of the flashbacks hard to understand.
