English Dub Review: Sugar Apple Fairy Tale “The Castle on the Sea”

Overview

Anne is having a hard time selling her sugar confections. Then she hears that the Duke of Philax is searching for a sugar artisan, so she and the others head to Philax. She’s granted an audience with the duke, but will her skills be good enough?

Our Take

It seems there’s a bit of political intrigue simmering in the background in this episode. Earning the favor of the Duke could be good for Anne’s business. She’s in a competitive cutthroat business. All that heavy political talk makes me feel like Anne is about to get herself caught up in some weird shit unless there’s a point to it later on…

As for what happens next, that douchebag Jonas is back (as expected) and is now surrounded by yes men… What’s even worse is that Anne is once again competing against him. Do you wonder if he will pull the same sneaky shit as last time?

Overall, it’s hard to tell at this point if the duke has hidden motives, or if he’s just solemn due to some tragedy in his past – possibly related to the fairy in the portraits? I assume it’s going to be similar to Challe and Liz’s former relationship? That could explain why he looks so miserable. But I guess we’ll find out in the next episode…
