English Dub Review: Moriarty the Patriot “Reminiscence of Lilies”;”A Tea Party with the Moriarty’s”
Overview:
A newspaper article about a vandalized painting catches the eye of William James Moriarty. Joined by Sherlock Holmes and John H. Watson, William looks for clues in order to find his old friend.
The Moriarty household faces its biggest crisis to date: hosting a tea party. Mysterious and closed off to the public, the Moriarty home hides an abundance of weapons, research, and other tools used in their underground activities.
Our Take:
Crunchyroll has just been surprising us with random dubs. I don’t know when the OVAs came out but I imagine it’s been a while and we got them dubbed randomly. But while they’re a little less serious than the rest of the series they were still enjoyable to watch.
The first OVA was a little more in-line with the series proper because it had a mystery to it. Just in this case, there wasn’t some twist that involved killing someone. It was just a good mystery which made me think. When you write something like this that means you have to be clever and come up with an interesting twist. Kind of tough to do, imagine trying to be as smart as Sherlock Holmes.
In the second OVA, the Moriartys are hosting a tea party as members of high society are often tasked to do. The only suspenseful thing about this one was the fact that they do a lot of illicit things and need to avoid getting caught. They brought in a friend to make sure that didn’t happen, who was played by Brandon McInnis doing a pretty decent German accent.
Being an anime that takes place in Britain most of the actors do accents and I would say they do a good job. Some are better than others but none are so bad that they take me out of the show. If you loved Moriarty the Patriot when it was airing you will no doubt enjoy getting more but you might be disappointed that it isn’t as thrilling as the series.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
