English Dub Review: Buddy Daddies “Crunch Time”

Overview:

Kazuki and Rei have to go back to work, but they also have to look after Miri.

Our Take:

Money is starting to get tight in the household, so Kazuki and Rei have to start taking jobs again. Immediately after they do, a virus forces Miri’s class to stay home for a few days. This complicates things because now, one of them has to stay home with Miri while the other works. Not only that, but Miri has to find out what her papas’ jobs are and do a presentation when they return to class.

Since they won’t tell her, Miri decides to find out herself. She follows Kazuki one day, but she ends up getting lost. Kazuki and Rei look for her and they find her at Kyu’s café. Kyu doesn’t know the whole story and Kazuki wants to keep it that way. Regardless, Kyu offers to watch over Miri so the two can finish their jobs.

Kyu learns more about Miri and her relationship with Kazuki and Rei. He also helps her out with her assignment by lying about her papas’ jobs. Later, Kyu tells Kazuki and Rei that he knows everything. He’s not thrilled about it, but he’s more understanding now that he’s spent some time with Miri.

I was wondering how long it would take for Kyu to find out about this little secret. Then again, I had a feeling he already knew. I was expecting him to be more harsh on them about it, but I guess spending some time with Miri made him realize that they made the right decision.

Moments like these just make the bond between Miri, Kazuki and Rei feel that much stronger. Kazuki and Rei are in a dangerous business, but Miri knows nothing about it. They could die at any moment, but they also know that there’s nobody else who can take care of Miri. They’re doing everything they can to balance their work and home lives and despite some hiccups, it seems to be working out well so far.
