Sorry Mel Gibson, “Family Guy” Already Showed Us Passion Of The Christ: 2

News was made this week when rumors came about that Jim Caveziel, best known in the lead role as Jesus H. Christ in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, would be reprising his role in a sequel entitled The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection is slated to begin production later this year. The premise reportedly revolves around the continued fairy tale around the life of Jesus Christ and his eventual “resurrection” from the dead which a whole side story about the fall of the angels and the rise of Hell.

Unfortunately for Mel Gibson, Family Guy released The Passion of the Christ sequel as part of the famed episode “North By North Quahog”. In the episode, the sequel is entitled The Passion of the Christ 2: Crucify This. The premise revolved around Jim Caviezel  reprising his role as Jesus, this time paired with the one and only Chris Tucker in an action adventure. You can check out the Don LaFontaine-voiced trailer below:

The movie was never released to theaters which was pretty much the underlying premise of the episode which revolved around Peter and Lois attempting to rekindle their relationship on a second honeymoon that ends with Mel Gibson chasing Peter who has the only copy of Mel’s directorial follow-up.

The episode is noteworthy for a couple of reasons. For starters, North By North Quahog was the return premiere of Family Guy after the series was canceled but demanded for a return after fans flocked to Adult Swim to watch reruns and to their local retailer to gobble up the DVDs. The episode was written by Seth MacFarlane and directed by Peter Shin who would go on to win an Annie award with the whole episode being nominated for a Prime-time Emmy.

Typically it’s The Simpsons making predictions, but this time, Family Guy is the only one to surmise that Mel would eventually come around and make his own piece of shit follow-up.
