HBO MAX News: Velma And Harley Quinn Have Helped Kick Off 2023 With A Bang For The Streamer

In the smoldering ashes of Netflix’s ridiculous January 2023 comes HBO MAX which, later this year, is expected to be combined with Discovery+ into one service entitled “MAX”. But, if this month is any indication, it looks like HBO MAX, or whatever it wants to be called, is correcting its course for a positive year.

Just last night, Harley Quinn won the Critics Choice Award for best animated comedy of which we would agree if we were just talking animated content produced in the United States and the streamer has already announced an upcoming special for the critically acclaimed Max Original adult animated series, HARLEY QUINN: A VERY PROBLEMATIC VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL. Coming to HBO Max in February 2023, the special will feature Harley and Ivy celebrating their very first Valentine’s Day together, while also revealing how the rest of the ragtag crew spends the gushiest, mushiest, most romantic day of the year.

The voice cast of HARLEY QUINN: A VERY PROBLEMATIC VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL includes Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Matt Oberg, James Wolk , Natalie Morales, Chris Diamantopoulos, James Adomian, Jim Rash, Vanessa Marshall , Janet Varney, Rachel Dratch, Leila Birch, Tyler James Williams, Josh Helman, Casey Wilson, Michael Ironside, and others.

Based on characters from DC, HARLEY QUINN: A VERY PROBLEMATIC VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL is produced by Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions and Yes, Norman Productions in association with Warner Bros. Animation. Executive Producers are Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Dean Lorey, Jennifer Coyle, Kaley Cuoco, Sam Register.

In other HBO MAX News, the streamer is reporting that the critically-panned Velma is the streamer’s biggest adult animated series debut in it’s history and that a second season may already be on the way. The show, created by Mindy Kaling, follows the titular character as she navigates life in her late twenties.Velma is a young, aspiring artist living in Brooklyn and trying to make a name for herself in the competitive world of contemporary art. Along the way, she must also deal with the challenges of being a young, single woman in the city, including dating and friendship.

The show features an all-star voice cast, including Kaling as Velma, along with other notable names such as John Early, Gary Cole, and Nicole Byer.

Another big name adult animated series coming later this year, Clone High, is now in post-production with a third season already having been ordered and on the way. The year 2023 could be a crazy year to be a HBO MAX subscriber.
