English Dub Review: Utawarerumono Mask of Truth “Stain the Road Crimson”

Overview

Haku faces his first real test, as Dekopompo moves against Ennakamuy. He’s bringing thousands of troops with him, and a familiar face as well…

Our Take

So far, I love this drastic change in Haku’s personality, it’s interesting how determined he has become. While Atui’s love for the battle is always great to watch and brings some level of enthusiasm and levity into a brutal battle such as this.

As for Dekopompo, his fate was something I don’t even feel bad for given how much of a douche he was to both his troops and own people. What did he think was going to happen?

Overall, this slaughter delievered some Braveheart levels of brutality. Sure this episode had some questionable decisions and took some very violent directions, but Maroro comes across as hypocritical. When general Dekopompo casually kills his own civilians it’s okay, but if the defending army kills their soldiers in self-defense it’s horrible? It makes me wonder what they’ll do next after this, but the fight felt very phyrric in its own way.
