English Dub Review: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War “Appears He… the Hero in Twilight”

Overview:

The Zemurian continent’s largest jaeger corps, the Northern Jaegers, are guarding relief supplies headed to Haliask, North Ambria when they spot a village being attacked by monsters. Lavian, a petite, quiet jaeger defies orders to help the villagers.

Our Take:

The Legend of Heroes: Trails series is one of my favorite video game series. I started with Trails of Cold Steel and have played just about every game we have gotten here in the West so far. It’s a fantastic JRPG series with some of the best world-building in any sort of media. Seriously, if you’ve played the series by the time you get to Trails of Cold Steel IV it’s like the Avengers with how many characters come together to face the threat.

The titular “Northern War” of this anime is something that is only broadly discussed in the games. So, when they announced an anime that was going to cover these events I was really excited. As of episode one, I can say that you don’t have to have any prior knowledge of the series to enjoy this but there are some easter eggs you would enjoy if you do. If that becomes a bigger thing then I will adjust my reviews accordingly but it seems like this will be a show anyone can enjoy.
