English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “Hellish Hell”

Overview:

The heroes wrestle with changing public opinion as they deal with the aftermath of the fierce battle and mourn those they lost in the fight.

Our Take:

The first half of this episode was mostly just recapping what had happened up until now. I was fully prepared to give it a low rating because recap episodes in the middle of a season are absolutely stupid. At the beginning of a season is one thing I can kind of understand but the middle? C’mon who is picking up a show mid-season that hasn’t seen the previous stuff?

Luckily, for us, that is not what we got. We got one of the best and most relatable scenes of the whole series. Uraraka is helping save as many people as she can and there in the middle of all the destruction she sees a pro hero. He looks defeated and distraught and he quits on the spot uttering the words “I don’t think I want to be a hero anymore”. We often take our first responders for granted and they have to deal with some terrible things but how about in a super society? That is what these heroes have to deal with. They are used to being the winners and having to deal with losing so badly is not something they were prepared for. We even had to say goodbye to a teacher in what I think is the first major death of the series. RIP Midnight, you may have been the butt of stupid perverted jokes but you went out as a hero.
