English Dub Review: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury “Prologue”
Overview:
At Fólkvangr, a front constructed inside an asteroid, the Gundam Lfrith is undergoing operating tests in the Vanadis Institute’s laboratory. The Lfrith has not yet managed to meet the conditions imposed by the council, and test pilot Elnora Samaya is growing impatient. That same day, her daughter is celebrating her fourth birthday…
Our Take:
This might be the fastest I’ve seen a Gundam series get dubbed. It usually takes a while so I just watched all of the first cour subbed. But now I am really excited to watch it all over again because this was one of the best shows of the fall season. I am a huge Gundam fan and this looked like one of the more unique ideas of the series.
For now, though we have a prologue that takes place years before the series proper. Our heroine is only a child but man… she gets a large kill count early. In a world where people are having issues adapting to life in space, there is a type of prosthetic/ living device called GUND. There are people in space who don’t believe using the GUND platform in a weapon of war like a mobile suit is okay. Only people should kill people not “drones”.
The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise has always had a fairly anti-war stance it likes to get across. This series takes aim at drones and greedy corporations it seems. As I said I watched the first cour of this subbed but I’m still wondering where it’s going to go I can promise you it’s a beautiful show.
Sunrise has outdone itself with the animation of this one. It has some of the most gorgeous fight scenes I have ever seen. They don’t just look good either, they are really enjoyable as well, this episode alone will have you itching to see more.
With it being a stealth drop with no announcement I don’t have much of a cast list at the moment. The mother, Elnora Samaya sounded like Elizabeth Maxwell but I could definitely be wrong and nothing has been announced. I am so glad this got dubbed because more and more people need to watch this fantastic anime.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
