English Dub Review: Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! “Fujio Uzaki Wants Family Time!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Uzaki family goes to a hot springs resort. During their brief getaway, Hana runs into Shinichi and Sakaki. Meanwhile, the cat receives training from the resort’s mascot.

Our Take:
The episode’s title pretty much says it all. The Uzaki family is spending quality time together by going to a hot springs resort. Unfortunately, Kiri’s the only member who stayed behind due to his traumatic experience at Fujio’s gym. This kid wants nothing to do with swimming after seeing Shinichi naked. I was expecting that the aftermath of Kiri’s encounter with Shinichi would affect this episode, and I wasn’t surprised that I was right.
The episode mainly consists of the family’s experience at the resort and their situations during their little vacation. One of them is Fujio getting caught in the spotlight when the young men admire his physique. Before that, he wound up chasing off the guys admiring his family. I can understand them flirting with Hana and Yanagi, but doing the same to Tsuki is a new level of creepiness.
The other scenario is Hana running into Shinichi and Sakaki in a cave bath. Their encounter didn’t last long, though, as Shinichi suggested that Hana should spend the day with her family instead of the guys. After realizing how much Fujio wants a nice family outing, Hana takes this advice to heart, but not without getting Shinichi to compliment her bathing suit.
As usual, this is another sitcom-like episode that doesn’t slow down with its hilarity regarding the Uzaki family. Hana’s family has delivered a strong track record in providing plenty of big laughs, and the addition of Fujio makes the quality times with the clan even more amusing. It also isn’t without a good heartfelt moment or two, with Fujio hoping to provide a nice family outing (minus Kiri) to cherish his time with Hana before she grows up. Sure, he still plays the overprotective dad card, but this is one of the examples where it’s tolerable.
My only issue with this episode is the side plot involving the cat encountering the resort’s mascot. It briefly showcases the cat doing some heavy training under the watchful eye of the mascot, leading to it becoming a muscular feline with a square head. It’s only there for the giggles, especially since the cat’s shocked face is one of the show’s best running gags. However, I wish it gives more context as to why the cat is training.
Besides this tiny flaw, “Fujio Uzaki Wants Family Time” is another entertaining episode featuring the world’s craziest family. Sadly, this might be the last time we get to spend some time with them, as it looks like we’ll be focusing on Hana and Shinichi again in the remaining episodes. With the holidays approaching, we could expect a Christmas miracle in seeing Hana and Shinichi taking their relationship to the next level.
