English Dub Review: Spy x Family “Nightfall/ First Fit of Jealousy”

Overview:

Fiona, who works at Loid’s hospital, happens to actually be the female WISE agent Nightfall. She is irritated that Operation Strix is facing delays, so she suggests that she becomes Mrs. Forger instead. She also decides to show up at the Forger household unannounced and comes face to face with Yor!

Anya loves the penguin plushie that Loid got for her, and even sleeps with it. However, a pale shadow shoots jealous glares in the penguin’s general direction…

Our Take:

I knew once Nightfall was introduced that she would be a divisive character. For one she works closely with Twilight and is in love with him. She also wants to replace Yor as Loid’s wife in Operation Strix! I could see why that would upset some fans and honestly, as much as I love Yor I get it. But I can also understand her because you can’t help who you fall in love with and she just wants to be with the man she loves.

The eventual throwdown between her and Yor will be one for the ages because no one I think really knows how strong Yor is. I really hope that gets explained someday but I also think it would be hilarious if she’s just strong to be strong.

I can’t believe I’m still saying this months later but Crunchyroll needs to fix their on-screen subtitles for the dubs. Nightfall and Loid had a whole conversation in code on-screen that I have no idea what it was about because it wasn’t translated. What makes it more upsetting is if you watch the subbed version it is translated. I’m no programmer but that seems like a simple drag-and-drop thing. I know they have a lot on their plate with the Funimation merger and I appreciate all the work they’ve put in but I just hope it gets fixed soon.

As for Anya and Bond they had their first fight and boy was it a doozy. Bond ripped up one of Anya’s favorite toys and it nearly ripped apart the Forger household. But luckily they can read each other’s minds so the problem got resolved a lot quicker than it would between a typical girl and dog. Another smash hit of an episode for the best family in anime.
