English Dub Review: Beast Tamer “Darkness in Horizon”

Overview
Rein is approached by Edgar, the local mayor’s son who wants to take Sora and Luna with him by force, but Rein stops him. Soon after, a female knight called Stella Enplace turns to Rein and his party, asking for their help in order to bring Edgar and his father to justice for their crimes.

Our Take

A corrupt monarch named Edgar Fromware, who’s the son of the village’s lord takes an interest in the fairy twins, and challenges Rein in the proposal of both Sora and Runa in the town of Horizon. Predictably, Edgar is the type that uses people as tools to get what he wants by force, yet is no match for the titular Beast Tamer. Fortunately, the townspeople also think the same way. Despite the warning to leave the town immediately, no matter if Rein does feel like he’s feeling down or just leaving the city like this, the girls will comfort and direct him onto the right path, to save those who can’t help themselves.

And if this is any indication, the investigation on Captain Gilet Stregar’s part, and most certainly, the report from Vice-captain Stella Enplace of the Order of Knights, with both Rein and Kanade shining a new ray of hope to exact justice from the top down and crush the corruption within the village. Of course, their plan to bring them to true justice isn’t something that will instantly happen overnight when Arios lends his help to Edgar in hopes that he’ll eliminate Rein in his stead…

Overall, a great episode that sets up new stakes and a new antagonist for Rein to battle against. In the process, we also finally meet the 5th member of Rein’s circle, sort of… (as hinted in the show’s intro) a young fox-girl who’s unfortunately enslaved and under Edgar’s abuse. And his actions effectively convey how despicable Edgar is as a character, and make the potential proceedings of Edgar’s impending ass-kicking from Rein and his team is all the more cathartic, especially since Arios gave him something that raises lots of questions. as for Rein’s newest weapon handcrafted from Gantz, it proves its usefulness being a gauntlet dagger and sets a trap for the Order of Knights to enter in this warehouse which contains all of the evidence to clean them all in one sweep, yet Rein’s dagger is not finished. But hopefully, there’s a payoff to that later on.
