English Dub Review: Ya Boy Kongming!”DREAMER”

Overview

While Kabe engages an old rival in a rematch, Eiko marches headlong into battle against her own inner adversary, and Kongming recalls peaceful days past.

Our Take

It seems that Kongming is a dude who’s perpetually ten steps ahead of others, and should have already conjured up some sort of genius plan for the approaching showdown with Azalea. On the subject, I feel kinda bad for Nanami. She made a new friend (Eiko) but now has to deal with the guilt of hiding her identity all this time. On the other hand, I’m glad to see Eiko keeping her head high with determination. Happy to see more of Kabe back too with a rivalry after retracing his steps with his friends in doing “rap battles” complete with an “8-Mile” reference of Kabe puking in a sink off camera out of nervousness.

As for the proceedings during the rap battle between Kabe and Sekitoba, it wasn’t as long as I thought it would be, but given that it’s entirely in Japanese, subtitles were expected in that scene in particular. And after closing that particular subplot, Kido had finished his arrangement for Eiko’s new song and she got into the groove of making it perfect. I even had a good laugh and was caught off guard when the instant she sang, Kongming got an immediate flashback to his past, which he described as transcending through time and space, quite literally.

Overall, with the way this is progressing, I wonder if they will show us who gets the most likes by the end of this season. 2 episodes is a very short time, even assuming that somehow Eiko gets 100k likes then still It’s hard to know if they’ll have time to show us some grandiose payoff in the finale. At the very least, I’m glad Kabe’s battle got wrapped up quickly because there isn’t much time left with Summer Sonia just days away. and with 2 episodes left, it didn’t feel too rushed either.
