English Dub Review: Beast Tamer “Dragonoid Power”

Overview

Tania joined the party and Rein’s party became more lively. Kanade and Tania wanted to know more about Rein, so he told his surprising past with them…

Our Take

In a very Tania-focused episode. After she was recruited, we later delve into abit of Rein’s backstory as we learn that Rein grew up in a village of beast tamers, which was why he chose to continue the tradition. And the fact he’s capable of transferring his soul into an animal temporarily (in this case, a bird) sounds like a stretch. And then again, not forgetting that he can exact Kanade’s powers from the bond contract, he can also do the same from Tania, with the slimes serving as target practice.

But losing both the village and his parents at such a young age, and being taken as an orphan, he was forced to put his beast-taming aside. That is until he grew up and got included into the so-called Hero’s Party, but being the douchebags they were, it’s clear that they never played to his strengths the same way his new friends have, not to mention Tania slowly growing as a person after joining Rein and helping him control his magic into something beneficial.

Overall, I like the dynamic so far between the three. The part where Rein is slowly growing independently and personally and with the help of his two new allies are thankfully helping him realize his full potential. In combination with this, If there’s anything I can take from this episode lesson-wise, it’s that no matter you strong or skilled you are, mistakes can still happen. Towards the end of this episode Rein and the girls cross paths with the very same hero group who kicked Rein out, to begin with. And I’m looking forward to seeing how much those douchemonkey’s underestimate Rein and his newly formed crew.
