English Dub Review: Beast Tamer “Another Ultimate Species”

Overview

An open job for the Guild pits Rein and Kanade against the Guard Dog of Stride Bridge… a violent raider with a surprising identity!

Our Take

Thanks to the efforts of his new animal person friend Kanade, Rein has upgraded his rank and celebrated his achievement with Kanade. Though living in the same room as Kanade sure for a night comes across as embarrassing because it’s not like they’re newlyweds. Not to mention there are two beds in the Inn they’re staying at. Though Kanade has her moments of despair, it’s Rein that changed her life around.

Later, the two partake in a ruffian kind of quest where some “Guard Dog” entity is blocking some path, and it causes enough deterrent for Rein to take it up for the huge reward. And they have every reason to worry, because much to their shock, it’s not even a Dog at all, but a Dragonoid creature named Tania with her own personal agenda on why she’s fighting strangers which leads to a surprisingly well-animated fight scene between Kanade and Tania while Rein begins to put his inner beast tamer skills into action leading to an unexpected trick up his sleeve that even threw me off.

Overall, at this point, it’s turning into another borderline Harem Anime. And much like a different show I previously covered, it does a better job hiding it than most fantasy/adventure (And Isekai) shows while managing to be lighthearted compared to the beyond blatant shows that often sprinkle their own spin on the subgenre with not-so-subtle sex jokes and edgelord protagonists. As for that cliffhanger ending, I’m so hyped to see Rein give a big proverbial middle finger to the hero party that previously kicked him out. It’s clear those douche-monkeys took him for granted not knowing how Beast Tamer’s work and we might see the full extent of that power next episode.
