Savage Town: Irish Invasion Continues In Adult Animation
We reviewed an Irish-produced feature-length last week called Silicon Docks that wasn’t very good, but with the pedigree behind this one, I’m expecting much bigger things. Deadline is reporting that Lighthouse Studios (Bob’s Burgers) is adapting a graphic novel from the likes of Declan Shalvey (Venom), Philip Barrett, and Jordie Bellaire to develop a 2D animated crime-drama entitled Savage Town. The series’ head writer would be Marcus Fleming and is loosely based on real events in Ireland at the turn of the 21st century during a period of economic growth known as the Celtic Tiger, which transformed it from one of Western Europe’s poorer countries into one of its wealthiest. It follows one local gangster who sees an opportunity to make a major play to control the city but finds himself trapped between two rival gangs with the same intention.
The adult animated series is expected to be shopped to streamers as a “binge-worthy” affair. Netflix seems like an ideal destination given that Peaky Blinders did very well for several seasons with a similar Irish-gang pathos that Savage Town appears to be going for.
Here are a few other graphic novels that are looking for animated adaptations.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
