English Dub Review: Kaiju Girl Caramelise “A Sparkling Weekend ~Where Dreams Come True~”

Kuroe accepts Minami’s invitation to a theme park, with a game plan in mind in case kaiju appear.

Our Take(Spoilers):

If you’ve ever watched Rent-a-Girlfriend, first you have my sympathies. Second, you might have noticed that everyone freaks out in public because Mizuhara is so hot. Well, we saw something similar when Kuroe decides to go to a theme park with Minami. People all around him made comments about how sexy he was. I thought it was interesting to see from a different point of view. I hope it doesn’t happen all the time as it does in that show.

The theme park date wasn’t going super well because Kuroe was specifically trying to avoid certain things to not transform again. She tried her best, but she still ended up transforming. She decided to embrace the monster inside of her and wanted to destroy Destiny Land until she felt someone grab her tail. That someone was Minami, and she hadn’t fully transformed yet, so he could tell it was her.

She ran away from him, and he gave her a great excuse to explain away how she looked. He said that he was surprised that she was cosplaying at a theme park. I know the show is trying to make us believe that he doesn’t know that she’s the kaiju, but I truly think he knows. I think that he’s a kind guy and cares for Kuroe and knew that if he said that out loud, it would make the people around her less freaked out, which would in turn calm her down.

Kuroe’s mother was interesting in this episode. She followed Kuroe to the theme park and tried to help when she could, but something was off. She kept saying that she couldn’t let Kuroe date a “human,” and don’t get me wrong, I don’t think any of us thought she was, but it was interesting phrasing. We might get some answers in the next episode because a mysterious guy shows up to talk to her as she was heading back home. If I had to guess, Kuroe was born from that egg, and perhaps her mom stole that egg from somewhere.

I’m happy we have a nice rom-com, but I hope that Kuroe is honest with Minami soon. As I said, I think he already knows, but I imagine he would like her to tell him herself.
