Review: Bob’s Burgers “What About Job?”

Overview

Every class in almost every grammar school loves to ask it’s probably too young a class, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. Louise takes this to heart and ponders a future about all of the possible jobs she could possibly partake in, and everyone seems to have an opinion on the matter as well. Eventually, Bob somewhat proposes to Louise that no matter what comes of your future, the only thing you can do is be yourself and be the best at what you do.

Our Take

Bob’s Burgers employs a classic-trope episode with a satisfying conclusion with an important morale. Perhaps the Sunday night series that is closes to Sesame Street when it pertains to a topic like this which is an idea that series like The Simpsons have also done in the past, but with Bob’s Burgers, I get a more assertive take. For The Simpsons, Lisa can spend a lot of time whining, Louise just looks to get to the bottom of whatever the hell point she’s trying to make, and that shows a lot here, and Kristen Schaal delivers a fantastic performance in the role.

If you’re a fan of any of the other Belchers this week, you may feel a tad left out but everyone gets a good shot in. Gene gets some comedy licks in, and I’ve always preferred a dusting of Tina commentary rather than a whole helping, and Bob gives us that sweet taste of “slow down” at the end, an endearing father-figure trait which may be my favorite of his. Bob’s at his best when he’s the “big picture” guy as opposed to the one getting the short end of the stick.

The new season of Bob’s Burgers is chugging along, maybe not award-winning just yet, but if episodes like this keep churning out, I’d be happy. These guys have hit every conceivable creative endeavor already, let the franchise coast for a bit.
