NYCC2022: HBO MAX Trots Out “Velma” Cast And Crew
HBO MAX has finally taken off the veil of it’s upcoming adult animated comedy Velma, featuring Charlie Grandy and Mindy Kaling, both of whom were part of the NYCC 2022 panel. Joining them is recently announced voice of Constance Wu (Daphne) and via Skype Glenn Howerton (“Fred”) and Sam Richardson (Shaggy).
Also announced is a filled guest cast that includes Jane Lynch (Donna), Wanda Sykes (Linda), Russell Peters (Aman), Melissa Fumero (Sophie), Stephen Root(Sheriff Cogburn), Gary Cole (Lamont Rogers), Ken Leung, Cherry Jones (Victoria), Frank Welker (William Jones), “Weird Al” Yankovic (Dandruff Tuba), Fortune Feimster(Olive), Yvonne Orji (Gigi), Sarayu Blue(Diya), Nicole Byer (Blythe Rogers), Ming-Na Wen(Carroll), Shay Mitchell (Brenda), Debby Ryan(Krista), Kulap Vilaysak, and Karl-Anthony Towns (Jacques Beau).
The panel was hosted by TV Guide’s Damian Holbrook who, quite frankly, seemed ill-prepared to host and is more annoying than anything. Moreover, he asked largely Twitter-produced questions which is probably more indicative of TV Guide’s constant change of ownership which is now up for four over the last 10 years.
In any event, Charlie and Mindy made sure to hold a book on any real spoilers, begging us all to watch a show that may or may not be in David Zaslav’s crosshairs. You can expect to meet all of the parents for the principle characters with really everybody getting slightly different alterations versus prior versions of the show, obviously Mindy voicing Velma has been the most controversial, but it seems just about everyone is a bit more modernized than years’ past. A big deal is that Scooby-Doo isn’t even in the show so if you have never liked the character, you are in luck.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
