English Dub Review: Spy x Family “A NEW FAMILY MEMBER”

Overview:

Loid faces off with one of the enemy’s bomb dogs, Anya secretly saves Loid, and Yor finds the leader of the terrorists who had been on the run. The whole family ends up involved in this terrorist bombing incident, but what will be its conclusion?! Also, they were supposed to go get a dog for Anya as a reward for her getting a Stella, but now, she says she wants to keep the mysterious, giant dog that she encounters in this incident. Loid knows the truth about this dog as well as the other dogs involved in the bombing incident and tells her, no, but then Anya says she’ll quit going to school if she can’t have the dog and…

Our Take:

This episode right here is why Spy x Family is my favorite manga right now and one of the best anime you can watch. They pepper in just enough “real” stuff with the comedy that you remember these are characters who deal with pretty heavy awful things. One of the things I love about both the OP and ED is that they show all members of the Forger Family before they “found” each other. Every single one of them was broken in their own way but in coming together they might just be able to put the pieces back together. Though some of that came crashing back down when Loid mentioned “When this is all over I’ll probably never see them again” but that doesn’t have to be the ending here! I think most of us are theorizing that that won’t be the case but we can only hope at this point.

Bond joining the family probably comes as no surprise but I have to admit I didn’t think I would get as emotional as I got. I almost cried multiple times and definitely teared up because there’s just something about this “found family” that just makes you so happy. I am sure I am telling you nothing new when it comes to how great this show is and that you should watch it. Maybe take a manga reader’s word that this will only get better I can promise you that.
