English Dub Review: Shoot! Goal to the Future “Aloof”

Overview:

Kakegawa plays Nomada once again.

Our Take:

Kakegawa gets one more shot at Nomada. We see more backstory of the relationship between Kokubo and Tsuji, but it’s mostly stuff we’ve already seen before. Tsuji notices that Kokubo doesn’t seem happy playing soccer anymore. When he confronts him about it, Kokubo tells Tsuji it’s his fault that he’s like this now.

Tsuji gets easily distracted in this episode as usual, but Kakegawa manages to pull out some tricks and get a leg up on Nomada for a while. Kurokawa also takes charge a little bit, which is very surprising. However, Kokubo comes back and puts his team on the board.

I haven’t liked Kokubo up to this point and after this episode, I still don’t. He’s whiny, annoying, and he’s probably the most melodramatic character in the show. He blames Tsuji for killing his love for soccer and he acts aggressively smug throughout the episode. I get irritated every time I see him on screen.

Tsuji cannot get it together. He’s always letting something distract him even when he says he’s fine. He says, he wants to play on a team, but he has a habit of straying from the pack for no reason. His inconsistency has always bothered me and unfortunately, that continues in this episode.

At least the game is fine so far. With the next episode being the season finale, I’m hoping Kakegawa pulls out the victory. Not because I really want to see them win, but mostly because I want Kokubo to lose.
