English Dub Review: Shinobi no Ittoki “Merciless Choices”

Ittoki has suddenly been urged to become a ninja. After a talk with Tokisada, a ninja feared as the “Demi-god,” Ittoki reluctantly agrees. But to get into the Ninja Academy, Ittoki has to pass the transfer admission exam…

Our Take:

Okay so the premise behind this is not even remotely believable but… it is pretty damn cool in my opinion. For one I loved how Ittoki’s only knowledge of ninjas seemingly comes from Naruto. As he describes all sorts of “Jutsu” from that show and I loved the jokes that followed. But he is going to learn a whole lot more because guess who’s going to ninja school? Yes, that is a totally real thing in this universe.

Now while that may sound dumb at first I think it could be very promising for a typical anime fan. After all, we weebs are no strangers to anime set in high school. So much so that we find a level of comfort in it so the fact that Ittoki is transferring to a ninja school will be a step in the right direction. This episode was pretty rushed with how quickly he decided to go to the school and take the exam AND get in. But this is only a twelve-episode series so they have to get through things quickly. I love an anime original show as much as the next guy but some of them struggle to tell a full story in twelve episodes.
