English Dub Review: OVERLORD: “The Witch of the Falling Kingdom”

Overview

Princess Renner decides to stay with her father and struggle against the Sorcerer King until the very end. Climb follows the orders of the princess and sneaks out of the royal palace only to be surprised at what he greets him when he returns.

Our Take

The story now shifts its focused to Climb and Princess Renner. As The king of the now fallen Re-Estize kingdom wanted both of them to escape with a secret underground path. But, as we know, Princess Renner has different kind of motives… And it’s here when we learn that since Renner showed up in Season 2, I knew she’d play a major role in the story, so we get to see the big and bloody payoff to her playing the long game… As for Climb’s fate, it was obvious what direction it was going to take given Renner’s personal goals and how closely intertwined she is with the poor oblivious dude.

Ainz Ooal Gown in terms of power and abilities hardly held back this season and, quite frankly, that’s what made the proceedings so damn interesting to keep up with. Much like last season, everything culminated at this moment as we now know certain events that played out in Season 2 started to make sense during a series of flashbacks that unraveled. And as a Bonus, the piece of shit character who’s been making small rounds named Phillip gets a very personal punishment from Albedo that is quite chilling in simultaneously the worst most satisfying ways.

This was one hell of a way for most of these multiple subplots to come together in an ending that makes complete sense. The pacing and animation were well done. I particularly like when Princess Renner broke into song to show her descent into madness like some awesomely sinister Disney Princess which is easily a breathtaking scene in its own right. My biggest complaint for this season and possibly the same complaint have towards the rest of this show as a whole (and Shield Hero Season 2), is the fact that certain parts of the show felt censored or character/plot details are sometimes ignored resulting in either YouTubers or fans who have read the light novels in advance and have felt the need to point out certain pieces of the story and lore that were meant to be told have either been ignored entirely or left in the cutting room floor. And upon research, while certain story events were left out of the light novels, and happened entirely off-screen, it’s been announced that an upcoming Overlord anime film will be coming out called “The Holy Kingdom” that is said to fill in specific narrative gaps of info, at least until the show further picks up where season 4 leaves off, but at the time of this review, all of that remains to be seen…
