English Dub Review: Overlord: “Invasion of the royal capital”

Overview

Everyone in the Re-Estize Kingdom makes their final preparations as the Sorcerer Kingdom’s army invades the royal capital. Some try to escape and some just wait to die. But a few of them wish to fight until the very end…

Our Take

Before the Sorcerer Kingdom moves forward with their plans, Pandoras Actor and Albedo begin to report their experiences from the previous episode as it was revealed that their entire fight was only to bait and study whom they were up against. And after acknowledging their future foes, they begin their invasion of the Royal Capital. With the Blue Roses Team with Princess Renner’s talk to buy more time, it felt like Evileye and the others during the proceedings with Lakyus felt like a fucked up Tea Party. Logically you can understand why they were doing what they did, but from Lakyus’s perspective it was like her entire team just made an important decision without her and their choice was easily one of the most shocking and disturbing moments within this episode.

On the subject choices, For some time we the audience have known the ulterior motives, of Princess Renner, along with her ties with the Sorceror Kingdom since previous episodes/seasons of the show, and now It feels like for once, it’s culminating towards something big. And this is further exemplified in a scene where she’s able to wield a sword with potential greater than Climb himself. And the fact she put so much emphasis on feeding some kids at an Orphanage she had involvement in comes across as all kinds of suspicious while her bodyguard whom she has an unusual obsession with named “Climb” remains none the wiser. Also near the end, there’s an unexpected match between the Swordsman Brain vs One of Nazarick’s heavy-hitters, Cocytus. Where the fight itself leads to a slightly predictable yet very unique conclusion…

Overall, while I was expecting a big fight that would expand to the previous episode, this was mostly dialogue-heavy. Part of me thinks more should have happened. With one episode left, I’m curious to see how it all ends for the Re-Re-Estize Kingdom. It’s not “Game of Thrones” levels of fucked up, but at the very least, the characters and world-building in this season remain amazing, and seeing all the plots finally come together should lead to a satisfying conclusion next episode.
