English Dub Review: My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World! “We Fought a Fire Dragon”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Yuji must now protect the town from the kaiju-level threat of a rampaging Fire Dragon.
Our Take:
Yuji has gained the necessary armor for his tamed monsters. But if he wants something more substantial, he’ll need to get a rare jewel from the true Flame Dragon living inside the volcano. However, Yuji won’t have to wait long for it to emerge, as the dragon and the other Lesser Fire Dragons have suddenly gone berserk.
The cause of this strange behavior is the Blue Moon Cult members, who plan to use barrels full of cursed water to enrage the dragons. Although Yuji manages to prevent the cultists from executing their scheme, his massive problem is far from over. The Flame Dragon rises from the volcano after the rain makes it crazy. This forces Yuji to battle the monster that’s so hot that it can dry up a river within seconds.
I’m pretty confident that I’m one of the few people who think the Flame Dragon closely resembles Godzilla regarding its design. It can also breathe fire and has a high body temperature that may rival Godzilla’s empowered state in 2019’s King of the Monsters. But, of course, considering that the iconic monster is famous in Japan, this is hardly a surprise.
Aside from that, “We Fought a Fire Dragon” plays out the same way as some of the other episodes involving Yuji protecting a village from a huge threat, for better or worse. The storyline sees Yuji fighting off the dragon using ice magic and the collected water from the river, although none of them seemed to affect it. He then uses the Permafrost Curse spell to freeze the dragon solid, leaving behind the Flame jewel and a rainmaking machine, meaning the cult used it to generate the rain and make the dragons angry.
The episode sometimes makes the Flame Dragon a formidable foe despite its weakness being ice and water. Sadly, it’s not enough to overshadow the derivative structure and subpar tension that also appeared in the previous episodes. I still prefer the battle between Yuji and the blue dragon in “Truly Unusual Situations” regarding the animation and direction of the action. The one in “We Fought a Fire Dragon” is watchable, but it still doesn’t do much to improve the overall series. The remaining three episodes in season one will take Yuji closer to the truth behind the mysterious Blue Moon cult, meaning the series has three more chances to finish the first season with a spellbinding bang.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
