English Dub Review: Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun “The Return”

Overview:

Reg and Faputa return to the village.

Our Take:

Reg brings a part of Faputa back to the village in order to rescue Nanachi. He ends up fighting Juroimoh, one of the Three Sages, but he uses his incinerator to win. Faputa makes her presence known and she says she can’t forgive the villagers. Then she charges at them, presumably to unleash her rage on them.

Faputa wants Reg’s help in destroying the village, but Riko likes the village. Reg doesn’t know what to do, but he knows he has to save Nanachi. He also knows the only way to do that is with the limb Faputa gave him.

I find it interesting that Riko and Vueko don’t show any resentment toward Wazukyan in this episode. It’s interesting because they know what he did and he also encourages Juroimoh to attack Reg, which puts Riko in danger. I’m still not the biggest fan of Wazkuyan personally, but I also don’t think he’s a bad guy. He just lost touch with reality.

I understand Faputa’s anger. The villagers devoured her siblings and used her mother for their own selfish desires. While they did what they had to do to survive, I still think Faputa’s rage is justified. I also admire her desire to destroy the village and put her mother out of her misery.
