English Dub Review: Lycoris Recoil “What’s done is done”

Overview

In the last episode’s cliffhanger, Chisato’s artificial heart was targeted. Now that the battery can no longer be charged, the remainder of Chisato’s days is set. Kurumi, who chases down clues about the irreplaceable artificial heart, asks Mika about what happened back then. Meanwhile, Chisato is summoned to Headquarters as DA prepares for a large-scale operation to suppress Majima…

Our Take

So in a big reveal that wasn’t much of a spoiler, Mika and Yoshimatsu were indeed in some sort of a relationship before. And in a flashback, it further reveals they were both mastermind planners behind Chisato’s survival. On the subject, It’s also now officially confirmed that Chisato only has 2 months left after that spy nurse tampered with her mechanical heart. While I appreciate the conflict it creates, especially the awesome Chisato and Takina’s friendship moments, it could still be solved if she fulfills this “grand mission” that the D.A. and Alan institute have made a joint effort to partake in.

Seeing as how Yoshimatsu is quite capable in medical technology and surgery, I believe he’s not done yet with Chisato. I think he still has the means and tools to prolong Chisato’s life, I believe that he purposely gave Chisato a two-month window so that in some ways he can manipulate her into accepting his conditions. To be the finest Assassin there is.

Overall a bittersweet episode revealing the actual stakes we now have. Chisato is trying her best to keep smiling, but she is obviously frustrated, furious, and afraid of dying and her deep appreciation for life due to the surgery and not have long to live in the first place is now the result of this. Nonetheless, that’s not going to stop others from worrying about her and trying to help her out. With the way the post-credits ended and with 3 episodes left, we can expect a big climax of sorts somewhere down the line…
