English Dub Review: Lupin III Part VI “The Memories of a Beloved Witch”
Overview
With just one sentence, Lupin may no longer be himself or may become the person he was always meant to be…
Our Take
After the previous episode established the levels of manipulation Tomoe is capable of, the plot thickens in this episode as Lupin turns out to be a sleeper agent of sorts And this is through a form of hypnosis that was planted deep inside of his subconsciousness. And what rewards upon repeat viewings, is the unique callbacks from filler episodes with Part 6 that connect all the various women from this season that turned out to be all part of the story leading up to now.
The whole hypnosis thing would normally be quite a stretch to work on Lupin and a pretty cliché plot device, but the way it was elaborately spread out through so many countries, languages, people, and possibly even years, it’s such a grand plan in vision that it actually manages to come across as plausible, and remained surprised this isn’t a twist used often in movies these days. When Lupin finally comes face to face with Tomoe, (who claims to be his real mother though it’s not really specified) it leads to one hell of a cliffhanger twist that left me super excited for the final episode.
This feels like an exciting lead-up to a major conclusion to this season. Tomoe is looking old for once, which I appreciate as the entire timeline with her looking the same age was quite confusing. At this point, I have no idea what will happen next or why Mattea wants to kill Tomoe, or whether or not Tomoe’s words to Lupin are 100% real or not given her manipulative nature. I Can’t wait to see how this all ends!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
