English Dub Review: Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout “A Guy Who Reincarnated as a Fantasy Knockout and”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Still under the control of the Demon Lord’s forces, Tachibana works the ancient weapon Mehpon while hurling many years worth of bottled-up emotions at Jinguji. Meanwhile, Jinguji, who has never been able to be fully honest with Tachibana, decides to take Schwartz’s advice and confronts Mehpon, knowing it’s being piloted by Tachibana.
Our Take:
Who knew that the final boss of the season turned out to be your best friend? With the kingdom of Ishruna still in peril, Jinguji and Schwartz make their last stand against Mehpon, controlled by a jealous Tachibana. One must wonder how they can win this fight without hurting Tachibana, especially since he’s still under the dark energy’s power. Well, it’s simple: with the power of feelings!
Some of the action-packed isekai shows I’ve seen usually conclude their seasons with an all-out brawl between the heroes and the unstoppable villains. While that’s the case in Life with an Ordinary Guy, the episode also represents the turning point of Jinguji’s friendship with Tachibana. Despite believing men sharing feelings is a sign of weakness, Jinguji admits he’s jealous of Tachibana for having the friendliness and social skills he lacks. This heartwarming speech is enough to break Tachibana free from Kalm’s influence.
This is another moment that highlights the unique friendship between the two main characters through their personalities. Tachibana is more of a headstrong and carefree person whose actions land him in troubling situations, but he is also empathetic and loyal toward others. On the other hand, Jinguji is strict with the rules and protective over Tachibana. Although, he’s also not much of a pro at expressing his feelings until the season finale. With the two acknowledging each other’s personalities, their friendship becomes stronger enough to escape Mehpon’s self-destruct sequence.
The sequence with Jinguji over-complimenting Tachibana is one of the reasons the season finale is a great way to cap off the show’s first season. It provides a suitable mixture of sentiment and humor without overdoing one or the other. The other reason is, of course, the comedy, mainly the moments involving Schwartz helping Jinguji admit his feelings. However, the one part that got me laughing the most was Tachibana’s reaction to her charm level increasing. Unfortunately, that means it’ll be even more challenging for these two to avoid falling in love with each other while journeying to the Demon Lord’s castle.
This has been one heck of a journey for all the right reasons. From the chemistry between the characters to the hilarious shenanigans, the show has proven itself to be far from an ordinary isekai adventure. More importantly, the season finale closed off its first season in a hilarious and somewhat heartfelt fashion. With the Demon Lord’s location being revealed thanks to Schwartz, the epic quest is far from over. Right now, the question is whether we’ll get to see more of it. Based on my experience with the series, I’m really hoping we do.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
